ABSTRACT
An example of a non-inertial frame which is simpler than one attached to the surface of the rotating Earth is one fixed to the inner surface of the giant spaceship described in Arthur C. Clarkes novel Rendezvous with Rama. Rama is a hollow cylinder of radius 10 km and length 50 km which rotates with a period of 4 minutes. The spin provides an artificial gravity for the passengers who live on the inner curved surface of the cylinder. There is no latitude effect on a rotating cylinder as all points on its curved surface have the same velocity about its axis. But the other effects arising from the acceleration of the reference frame are present.
