ABSTRACT

In the Indian rope trick a rope is thrown into the air; the rope remains magically suspended while someone climbs up it and disappears into the sky. The rope is then retrieved. This trick is ususally reported by observers to be performed late in the evening. The purpose of this assignment is to show that it is in fact possible in theory to position a rope in apparent suspension in this way - although it needs a very long, strong rope and not in India!
