ABSTRACT
The survival of icebergs beyond the polar regions makes them a hazard to shipping. Various methods to get rid of them have been proposed. One method is to cover the iceberg with a thick layer of soot delivered from an aircraft. The blackened iceberg will then absorb all the sunlight incident on it and melt rapidly.
