ABSTRACT
Traditionally a telescope mirror is made by casting a flat-faced blank of glass and then laboriously grinding away material from the face to shape it into a paraboloid. At the University of Arizona, a telescope mirror 6.5 m in diameter has been cast in a mould rotating at a steady 7.4 rpm.
