ABSTRACT

A continuum is a nonempty, compact, connected metric space. A subcontinuum is a continuum which is a subset of a space. We shall on occasion have reason to consider nonempty, compact, connected T1-spaces (or Hausdorff spaces); we shall refer to such spaces as T1-continua (or Hausdorff continua). However, we emphasize that the term continuum by itself always means a metric continuum.
