ABSTRACT
Plastics, or polymers, are materials made from a number of smaller molecules called monomers. Monomers are linked together to form long chains of polymers with useful properties. For example, ethylene (C2H4) is a monomer that is polymerized with the help of catalysts, heat, and pressure to create high-molecular-weight chainlike molecules of polyethylene.
