ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter, the need for individual design of plant associated temporary works was emphasized. By contrast, the three other main areas of temporary works use - scaffolding, formwork and falsework and the support of excavations - can have either of two approaches to their solution. These are by standard solutions or by individual design, depending on the circumstances involved. Such alternative approaches are recognized and defined in Codes of Practice in the case of scaffolding and falsework, and in definitive documents in the case of formwork and support of excavations.
