ABSTRACT
The fundamental principles that apply to the analysis of fluid flows are few and can be described by the "conservation laws":
I. Conservation of mass 2. Conservation of energy (first law of thermodynamics) 3. Conservation of momentum (Newton's second law)
To these may also be added:
4. The second law of thermodynamics 5. Conservation of dimensions ("fruit salad" law) 6. Conservation of dollars (economics)
These c o n s e r v a t i o n l a w s are basic and, along with appropriate rate or t r a n s - p o r t m o d e l s (discussed below), are the starting point for the solution of every problem.
