ABSTRACT
I was extremely interested in nuclear physics even when I was at school. At the end of the 1950s the industrial countries had to solve their growing demand for energy with the help of nuclear power. ‘One gram of uranium is the equivalent of a long freight train filled with coal!’ was the message which excited me.
