ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the water cycle beginning with a description of the atmosphere and surface water followed by groundwater. It explores the rivers, most dynamic reservoir, then the more static ones, lakes and glaciers. It also discuss atmosphere in general as a water reservoir and then how the atmosphere transfers its water to the soil. The chapter presents more details on the issues linked to climate change and its implications for the engineer and for society. It provides water cycle has undergone significant modifications, particularly during the Quaternary glaciations.
