ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the rapid processes that control the removal of material. It describes the typical continental environments. The chapter explains connection between the transport of water and geologic materials, first on continents, then in the ocean environment. It also explains that sedimentary systems are often complex because of base level variations in the alluvial plain. The chapter describes typical continental environments. It identifies the principal processes involved in erosion, transport, and deposition for the typical continental environments. The chapter also examines the mechanisms of erosion, transport and deposition of sediments in various typical continental environments. It deals with the ones that are familiar to us and will end with two exotic settings. The chapter also describes the principal types, proceeding from solid rocks to semi-liquid materials. It includes the high mountains of lower latitude, which are very analogous to near-polar regions. It also describes in the lacustrine environment.
