ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces several public key ciphers. Public-key ciphers are generally slower than private key ciphers. They are used for short communications, like a private key for a longer attached ciphertext. In contrast to private key ciphers, they do not require the exchange or establishment of a secret key before communication begins.
