ABSTRACT

In many agricultural research problems you will be faced with a situation in which you are interested in the relationship between two different random variables X and Y. Such a relationship is known as a bivariate relationship. For example, an animal scientist may be interested in the relationship between the amount of total digestible nutrient (TDN) consumed and the average daily weight gain of the animal. An agricultural economist may be interested in the bivariate relationship between the appraised value of farm real estate, X, and its sale price, Y; or an agronomist may use a crop-weather model to analyze the effects of weather (X) on the yield of a crop (Y).
