Differentiable Manifolds

We have reached a stage for which it is beneficial to take on board the theory of manifolds. This more abstract theory is a vehicle in which the definitions of Chapter 9 for Euclidean spaces extend in a natural way. The resulting concepts will provide us with a framework with which to pursue the intrinsic study of surfaces begun in Chapter 17.
