ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the spectrum of unit processes and associated technologies that are available. The themes of transport and sinks are described briefly, as is the notion of a reactor (and the associated materials balance principle) so that they can serve as a reference in the succeeding chapters. They are delineated in greater detail, as they apply, in later chapters.
