One critical concept to keep in mind is that often an organization can be more successfully attacked by social engineering methods than by technical methods. The human element is frequently the weak link in the security process. Active employee awareness training programs can greatly add to the security posture of an organization. The bad guys have an enormous pool of allies to draw from, which is one of their greatest strengths. With such a target-rich environment and varying interests, the bad guys are willing to work together to hone their skills, develop new "weapons," and share information.
