ABSTRACT

Health care data grow rapidly in volume, variety, velocity, veracity, and value. This chapter introduces health care data with an emphasis on the related challenges in health care fraud assessment. Standard health care data types are in the form of practitioners, clinical instances, and claims data. In health care fraud investigations, complementary information from sources such as public records, social media, and weather reports can also be used. These additional data sources include driver’s licenses, birth/death, voter, banking, property tax, and commercial records.
