ABSTRACT

Executive summary: Prince2 (“Projects In Controlled Environments”) is a project management standard developed and used by the government of the United Kingdom. Prince2 is in many ways similar to the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK). Both of these methods have published bodies of knowledge, which are the basis for professional certifications. Both require certain levels of education and experience, passing scores on comprehensive exams, and periodic re-certification, including continuing education credits. Prince2 and PMBoK are not software development methods as such, but are used in conjunction with many different methods such as Rational Unified Process (RUP)—they are most commonly used in mid and large size projects, and less frequently with the Agile methods.
