ABSTRACT
A more advanced approach in Structural Health Monitoring is the concept of Smart Building. A Smart Building is an ideal structure with self-sensing capabilities that enable its users to evaluate its structural performance directly and instantaneously. Generally, direct testing obtains results of higher accuracy than indirect testing which makes Smart Building an
engaging innovation.This technology is made possible through the combination of different non-destructive testing techniques and the idea of a Structural Neural System. This system replicates the function of a human nervous system and its sensing capabilities into a structure. It utilizes smart materials that act as nerve system similar to that of a human body. An example of a smart material is the Carbon Nanotube (CNT).
