ABSTRACT
Gender dimensions impact the ability of both men and women to plan for disasters, actively mitigate risks, respond to unfolding events, and rebuild in the aftermath. Gender both shapes and is shaped by levels of poverty and social, political, and economic marginalization. Studies presented in this section explore the benefits of explicit inclusion of gender in policy and in planning and response initiatives.
