ABSTRACT

In previous publications, we have experimentally discussed the case of multiple acceptors (see, e.g., Blaudeck et al., 2008 ;

Zenkevich et al., 200 9 ; Blaudeck et al., 2012 ; Zenkevich et al., 2012 ; von Borczyskowski and Zenkevich, 201 4 ), but not rigorously dealt with a formalism for the quantitative evaluation. In order to determine the basic interaction properties within the QD-dye heteroaggregates, photoluminescence (PL) titration experiments looking at the inhibition (or: quenching) of the QD PL have been a method-of-choice, within the well-established Stern-Volmer formalism as put forward by Stern and Volmer (1919) and taken up by Forster (1948 ) used as a common analysis framework for evaluation (see, e.g., Valeur, 2002 ; Lakowicz, 2006). In this chapter, we concentrate on the basic extension of this formalism taking into account the role of multiple, yet a finite number of quenchers in the heteroaggregates. For the rigorous introduction of the basic principles of the Stern-Volmer approach, we refer the reader to Chapter 4.
