ABSTRACT

The possible imperfection of the theory on which the experiment is based, the imperfection of the instrument used for measurement, and the imperfection on the part of the observer are some of the major causes of uncertainties. The derived general expression has been employed to demonstrate the estimation of uncertainties associated with flow Mach number calculated using the measured values of total pressure and the ambient pressure. Uncertainty analysis is the procedure used to quantify data validity and accuracy. Uncertainty analysis also will be useful in identifying the potential sources of unacceptable errors and suggesting improved measurement methods. The appropriate concept for expressing inaccuracies is uncertainty. An uncertainty is not the same as an error. An error in a measurement is just the difference between the correct value and the recorded value. Uncertainty analysis is the procedure used to quantify data validity and accuracy.
