ABSTRACT

Documentation of ethnobotanical knowledge is gaining significant importance. It is an important instrument for research dealing with medicines, cultivation, vegetations etc. North East India is rich in biodiversity. It constitutes the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya,

Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The people of these regions still depend on nature for their livelihood. They possess vast Knowledge of their surrounding flora and fauna. This knowledge is documented by many research scholars with the help of the ethnic tribes. The documentation shows the potentials of the ethnobotanical studies with particular reference to biodiversity conservation of the important folk medicinal plants, edible plants which are used for treating various ailments and diseases in their daily life. Thus, the ethnobotanical knowledge will remain alive for generation after generation.
