ABSTRACT

Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. The quality of leadership is a critical factor in the workplace. Organizations are greatly concerned with selecting, developing, and supporting their managers and executives, and in making the best use of their leadership abilities on the job. The Ohio State studies were the first to point out and emphasize the importance of both task and human dimensions for assessing leadership. Theory X and Theory Y attempt to explain and predict leadership behavior and performance based on leader’s attitude about followers. The catalyst for the implementation of the solution lies with the leadership of the organization supporting those that behave ethically, both financially and in other ways. Leadership before, during, and after change implementation is the key to getting through the swamp.
