ABSTRACT

After our introductory discussions in Chapters 1 and 2, in this chapter, we will look at some further aspects of the theory of resolution occurring in microscopy. Microscopy is a large and venerable field and we have, therefore, had to be very selective. We largely restrict ourselves to optical microscopy, so techniques such as scanning tunnelling microscopy and atomic force microscopy are not covered. However, at the end of the chapter, we do show some recent results for ultrasound microscopy which have been achieved using a method similar to one in fluorescence microscopy.
