Introduction

In this chapter we will investigate some important results in the differential geometry of curves and surfaces in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space R ³, in order to obtain a good intuition of geometric concepts such as curvature and torsion. These concepts and results will be generalized to higher dimensional manifolds of various types in the next chapters.
