ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the development of a new concept in herbal delivery system. Herbosomes are created when the standardized extract and active ingredients of an herb are bound to the phospholipids on a molecular level. Herbosome structures contain the active ingredients of the herb surrounded by the phospholipids. The use of heibrosomes is a new advanced modern dosage formulation technology to deliver herbal products and drugs with improved better absorption and produce better results than those obtained by conventional herbal extracts. Phytosomes are advanced herbal products produced by binding individual component of herbal extract to phytolipids, mainly phosphatidylcholine, resulting in a product that is better absorbed and produces better results than the conventional herbal extract. Phospholipids are complex molecules that are used in all known life forms to make cell membranes. Phosphatidylcholine is a bifunctional compound miscible both in water and in oil environments, and is well absorbed when taken by mouth.
