ABSTRACT
BEFORE approaching the general problem of resolving particle heterogeneityand diffusion, we consider the simpler problem of a distribution of very large, virtually non-diffusing particles. This provides a starting point for the practice of distribution analyses that is conceptually easier, links up with historical methods, and can be generalized later in various ways to problems exhibiting diffusion.
