ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the unique characteristics and qualities of physicians requires to look at how adults acquire new skills. Physicians are not difficult on purpose or out of spite. Diverging learners acquire new skills through intuition, imagination, listening, and personalized feedback. "Learning style describes the unique ways that individuals spiral through the learning cycle based on their preference for the four different learning modes: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. Assimilating learners think long and deeply about existing knowledge, applying it to theories and analytical models. Accommodating learners are influenced by others in their decision-making, often relying on peers and opinion leaders to inform their choices and actions. The selection of students who will succeed and integrate into a hyper-rational world begins the physician's journey to join a group of professionals who learn like no others. Physicians are remarkably homogeneous in their learning styles.
