ABSTRACT

The relationship between innovation and leadership can best be described as covalent and complimentary. One without the other simply diminishes its quality and outcome. In this chapter, we introduce and elaborate on the commonalities and relationships that bind the two terms. We start our discussion with an introduction to general leadership axioms and logics in business and management, and we examine how a leader’s vision, commitment, and approach to innovation are essential in setting the tone for an organization’s innovation culture. The chapter wraps up our leadership and innovation discussion with leadership and best practices, dynamic capabilities, and effectively managing risk in an innovative culture.
