ABSTRACT

Wastewater contains microbes because the human feces it carries is full of microbes, dead and alive. Estimates of the fraction of feces that is microbial flora are between 30% and 95% w/w [1-3]. Wastewater is likely to contain bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites (protozoan and worms). The exact flora and concentration will depend on several factors: size of the population served, season, types of infections, and number of infected people in the community served [4-6].
