ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 discussed an overview of structural and operating system components of an aircraft. The type of input raw material and its associated product geometry required for manufacturing aircraft components varies according to the engineering design needs of the part for the particular model of aircraft. A variety of manufacturing technologies are applied to major input raw materials in the form of sheet metals, bars, plates, extrusions, and forgings. Manufacturing cost and quality of a component is directly related to the manufacturing technology involved. This is added to the research and development as needed to nd the right technology for the right product component to result in optimum cost of manufacturing and highest quality as highlighted in Figure 7.1.
