A first look at the history

We know, in essence, the history of the Universe from the time that it was about a second old, up to the present when it is 1.38 × 1010 yr old. We know it, because it is confirmed by observation to an extent that excludes beyond reasonable doubt any alternative. In contrast, the earlier history is a matter of conjecture.
