ABSTRACT
We saw in Chapter 10 that Newtonian perturbations consist of two modes, which evolve independently. These are the vector mode which describes the vorticity of the fluid flow, and the scalar mode which among other things describes the perturbations in the energy density. For relativistic perturbations there is in addition a tensor mode, which describes gravitational waves and their interaction with the cosmic fluid.
