ABSTRACT

In the last years, techniques such as AOPs have offered effective and rapid alternative methodology for the treatment of emerging pollutants in wastewater. AOPs are based on the generation of highly reactive radical species, predominantly the hydroxyl radical (∙OH), which is strong enough to nonselectively oxidize most organic compounds through chain reactions. The in situ generation of highly reactive species, such as the hydroxyl radical, allows the degradation of organic matter to take place (Table 4.1: Equations 4.1 through 4.19).
