ABSTRACT

The New Zealand Plateau, or Zealandia, makes up the Earth’s largest submerged continent. The northern part includes Lord Howe Rise, Norfolk Ridge, and New Caledonia. On the drowned, southern partthe Campbell Plateau-the small, scattered subantarctic islands are the only emergent land remaining (Figure 6.1). This chapter discusses the southern region, along with the Chatham Rise and its only emergent part, the Chatham Islands.
