ABSTRACT

It is important to note that β is not a constant; it varies as a function of temperature as the relationship between volume (V) and temperature (T) is generally not linear. Physically, we can understand that thermal expansion is due to the presence of phonons in the material and this is why β is not a constant. The value of β at any given temperature depends

on the characteristics of the phonons which there is adequate thermal energy (3/2kBT) available to excite at the sample temperature.
