ABSTRACT

The basis for design and performance of a variety of air, water, and solid waste control equipment and processes is briey summarized in this chapter. This information is provided in the context of a pollution prevention text to indicate control methods that must be installed if contaminant releases exceed acceptable emission levels required by local, state, or federal regulatory agencies. It is also important to understand the nature and potential costs of treatment requirements of various waste streams generated in manufacturing and chemical production processes so that the true cost of waste generation and the associated benets of waste and liability reduction provided by pollution prevention efforts can be adequately incorporated into cost and feasibility studies for options identi-ed as part of a facility pollution prevention opportunity assessment.
