ABSTRACT

The paint manufacturing industry consists of establishments engaged in the manufacture of paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, paint and varnish removers, and allied paint products. The paint manufacturing industry described in this chapter does not include the manufacturers of pigments (organic or inorganic), resins, printing inks, adhesives, sealants, or art materials, nor the many numerous coating users applying these coatings to innumerable products. There were approximately 1664 establishments that were categorized as paint and coating manufacturing facilities nationwide in 2013 (U.S. Census Bureau 2015), and most small paint manufacturing facilities produce paint in 10-to 500-gallon batches.
