In the telecommunications field, finding an optimal path between a source node and destination node is very important for ensuring certain aspects of path quality such as high bandwidth and fewer end-to-end delays for end users. A given source and destination pair in a network will select one among several paths for data transfer during a session. Exploring the network and

finding the best path (fewer hops, optimum bandwidth, and fewer delays) is the job of routing protocols. The capabilities of available routing protocols depend on the characteristics and requirements of the underlying network for which they were designed.
