ABSTRACT

The purpose of design for serviceability (DFS) is to ensure that product concepts are easy to service and maintain. DFS is linked to DFA because the easier it is to assemble a product, the easier it is to disassemble a product for

service and maintenance. Therefore, it is critical to involve maintenance and service personnel in the design. The key focus areas for DFS include

• Accessibility • Low fastener count • Low tool count • One-step service functions • Predictable maintenance schedules

The key purpose of design for the environment (DFE) is to develop reusable or recyclable elements. When designing new products and processes, the team should look for environmentally friendly solutions.
