ABSTRACT

Concept generation can come from several sources. First, concepts can stem from personal inspiration and vision. Concept ideas can also be a result of benchmarking the industry leaders or reverse engineering the best-inclass products based on their form, fit, or function. Another methodology for concept generation is TRIZ, which is discussed in detail in Chapter 11. Brainstorming with a cross-functional group can also be beneficial for developing new ideas and concepts. Finally, concepts can be generated through patent searches, literature searches, and consultant input and guidance.
