ABSTRACT

This stage was concomitant with stage 2. It was a preliminary stage before characterizing chlordecone pollution on a large scale in various environments. It consisted of establishing protocols for sampling (which depth of soil? which river courses? which parts of plant or animal? etc.); extraction processes for different matrices (water, soil, plant and animal tissues, sometimes in very low quantities); analytical processes providing accurate and faster results; and building of indicators like sentinel species in various conditions. In chlordecone’s case, everything was to be built owing to the lack of references for this molecule.
