ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the use of Excel as a powerful data analysis tool. In addition to Excel's own capabilities, for those auditors familiar with the use of ACL, there exists an ACL add-on, which is downloadable free from the Internet and which facilitates the creation and use of ACL add-in tables in a manner that protects the data from those Excel functions that allow the altering of data for those cells that would have been defined as part of an add-in table. The Excel Database Functions are designed to assist in the analysis of a large number of organized data records stored in Excel. Nevertheless, it should be noted that, to make effective use of Excel for data analysis or modeling, a highly technical skill level in the use of Excel is required.
