ABSTRACT

Cerclage wire cannot be used for this short, oblique fracture and IM pinning would not sufficiently oppose torsional forces. External fixation would not be optimal, even with a tie-in configuration, due to the size of the patient and the distance from connecting rod to bone which is long. Morbidity from pin tracts may also be a problem. Plate-rod configuration should be effective. However, if a locking plate were used in this simple fracture, high interfragmentary strain may negatively affect bone healing.
