ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with an overview of some of the key concepts of biometric technology, specifically the key social and technical implications of its use. One of the most fundamental issues surrounding the creation, development, and deployment of biometric technology is its societal impacts on citizens of each and every country. The chapter examines both the key social and technical implications surrounding the use of biometrics technology. The primary purpose of the e-passport infrastructure is to do away with the traditional paper passport. The primary idea behind this technology is to use biometrics as the main vehicle in which to confirm the identity of a particular traveler. The e-passport is primarily composed of a microprocessor chip, as well as a miniature antennae. Electronic voting, also known more simply as "e-voting," is merely the process by which a voter can easily cast his or her particular ballot.
