ABSTRACT

One of the other biggest factors that are contributing to the decline of the adoption rate of biometrics in the United States is the perception which the American public holds about biometrics. The American public often likes to associate biometric technology with various "James Bond" movies and other famous crime scene programs on the major television networks, such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. This association also impedes the adoption rate of biometric technology in the United States. Legal issue that has greatly slowed down the adoption rate of biometric technology has been in the area of how the biometric templates themselves are actually stored. Using the tactics of social engineering, the ID thief would then proceed to ask the victim for his or her personal information, making the claims that this was needed to fully confirm his or her particular identity.
