ABSTRACT

Cadastres are the basic source of information for all aspects of land tenure and use, including the resolution of title and boundary disputes. In most countries, including the United States, extensive legal systems have developed around the original administrative systems and the records and information contained within those systems. In addition, cadastres have an important social function in serving as an archive that protects communities from commercial chaos following disasters such as floods, earthquakes, fire, hurricanes, or financial panics.
