ABSTRACT

The strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany during World War II played a pivotal role in the eventual victory by the allies. The relentless bombing campaign consisted of nighttime raids by the British Royal Air Force, and daytime bombing raids by the U.S. Army Air Corps against strategic targets such as German U-boat and aircraft factories, as well as other manufacturing and critical infrastructure targets. Although the American bombers sustained heavy losses at the beginning of the campaign, they persevered and caused considerable damage to the German industrial production of war materiel and the supplies needed to sustain the war effort.
