ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors examine several types of waveguides using a very important analysis technique called the transverse resonance method. It is introduced as an exact technique for the analysis of multilayer slab waveguides, whereas subsequently it will be extended as an approximate method capable of treating many types of waveguide not otherwise capable of being analyzed by other than numerical means. While they already have a full solution for this waveguide by other means, it is instructive to see it carried out by the transverse resonance method. The quasi-optical microstrip will analyze by using the transverse resonance method. Note that no other modes of this waveguide are found by the transverse resonance method, because only transverse electromagnetic waves have been used as building blocks for the fields.
